So my friend Jun called tonight and we hadn't spoken for about two months, since my party, but we didn't really get to talk and she left early that night. She said she'd just called Janet's house and her mother kept her on the phone for half an hour, weeping about Janet's running away and something about Janet taking all their bank books with her so they couldn't do any banking. Jun said Janet's mum sounded suicidal and I wasn't surprised. There was also talk that she was getting divorced and I told Jun that I'd heard that rumour years ago. Jun said the last time Janet's mum came to her house, she broke down and cried that she didn't know what to do with her daughter. We spent a few minutes discussing Janet and her family's problems, but neither of us knew where Janet's hatred sprang from. There was doubt that we'd ever see Janet again, because nobody seemed to know where she was and she hadn't been picking up her mobile calls.
She told me that it was her and David's one and a half year anniversary with an annoyed tone in her voice and throughout our conversation there were several quips about not being sure if they'd be together for much longer. When she asked me how she was I closed my eyes and said that Michael and I had broken up and she let out an exasperated what?! as if she would've never expected it. I repeated it, then refused to really go into it, except to say that he thought we wouldn't work out and left it at that. Jun tried to cheer me up with that schoolgirl charm way of hers and I just sighed and shook my head. Since she's on holiday for the next few weeks we tried to plan something for the two of us to do. Everytime I came up with something she was already booked, so we ended up deciding that we'd meet up on Sunday during the day and shoot pool at her house. Jun is planning a birthday party, and she might make it fantasy dress or some shit like that so I think that might be fun. |
